Goodbuy Privacy Policy
Last updated September 30, 2026
This policy explains what happens to your data when you use the app on iPhone or Android.
The short version: your lists stay on your phone. There are no accounts. The app sends anonymous usage statistics to PostHog, which you can turn off. Google shows the ads in the free version.
Data that stays on your phone
Goodbuy stores everything you create in the app’s own storage on your device:
- lists, items, quantities and notes
- store layouts and item groups
- the history of items you have added, used for suggestions
- photos you attach to items
- your settings, such as language, theme and units
We never receive a copy of this data. We can’t see your lists or photos, and we can’t restore them if you lose your phone or uninstall the app.
Keeping and deleting local data
Your local data stays on your device until you remove it. Archived lists are kept so you can use them again.
In Goodbuy’s Settings, under Danger Zone:
- Delete all lists removes stored lists and their items, notes and attached photo copies. It keeps your item history, store layouts and settings.
- Clear item history removes the remembered item names and group associations used for suggestions. It keeps the items already in your lists.
Deleting an individual list or item removes it from view, but its record can remain in local storage until you use Delete all lists or remove the app’s data. Photos attached to deleted items are eligible for cleanup after seven days, when you next open the app.
To remove all local app data, delete Goodbuy and its data from your device. On iPhone, choose Delete App rather than Offload App, which keeps app data. These actions do not delete original photos from your photo library or copies in device backups.
Deleting local data does not delete usage statistics, error reports or advertising data already sent to PostHog or Google.
Camera and photos
The app asks for camera or photo library access only when you attach a picture to an item. It copies the picture you choose into its own storage. It does not read or upload anything else from your library. You can turn this permission off at any time in your phone’s settings.
Usage statistics
To help us improve the app, Goodbuy sends usage events to PostHog, an analytics service. An event says what happened, for example “a list was created”, “an item was added with a photo” or “the Premium screen was opened”.
Usage events do not contain the names of your lists or items, your notes or your photos. We also send technical error reports, including error messages and stack traces, to help find and fix problems. These reports may include app and device information.
Events and error reports use a random installation ID. It is not linked to your name, email or advertising ID. We have configured PostHog to discard IP addresses from analytics data.
To stop sending new usage events and error reports, open Settings → Privacy and turn off Share anonymous usage data. You can turn it back on in the same place. This control appears only in versions of the app with analytics enabled. Turning it off does not remove data already sent. The analytics service may still receive a configuration request without your installation ID or usage events when the app starts.
PostHog processes analytics data for us. Read their Privacy Policy for more information.
Ads
The free version shows banner ads from Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects data from your device, such as:
- your device’s advertising ID
- your IP address and approximate location derived from it
- device and app information
- how you interact with the ads
Google processes this data under its own Privacy Policy. Its page on how Google uses information from apps explains more. The ad SDK does not see your lists or photos.
Where available, open Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy options in Goodbuy to review or change your ad consent choices. On iPhone, you can also withdraw tracking permission in the phone’s Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Turning off tracking does not turn off all ads or all data collection needed to serve them. Changing consent does not delete advertising data already collected; Google’s policy explains the available deletion controls.
Children
Goodbuy is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
